€15.00
The author, Jim Quinn, born 1956 is from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh. A member of Unite the Union (T&G) since 1978, he is currently a member of Unite the Union’s Enniskillen Branch and Delegate to the Fermanagh Council of Trade Unions. Quinn has extensively researched Fermanagh’s labour history with a number of publications to his credit, the most recent marking the centenary of his Unite Branch, We’ll Get Them In The Long Grass, a study of the life of his mentor, the late Jim Brown from Lisbellaw.
The period covered in this book includes the great depression of the 1930s, Outdoor Relief struggles, the fight against fascism, the Red Scare period following the Second World War, the Swinging Sixties, the birth of the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association and the subsequent descent into violence and oppression. As a broad church, religiously and politically, the Fermanagh labour movement had to weather those many storms and remain united to fulfill its core objective to fight for a better life for ordinary women and men in our communities.
