The Irish Labour History Society learned with great sadness of the death of our former President Brendan Byrne who passed away on 16 March 2023. A former trade union official (ITGWU/SIPTU), Brendan was a stalwart of the Society serving as President (2007-13), Treasurer (2003-07) and as a committee member (2002-03).
He made a stellar contribution to the Society, serving as President during the key centenary of the 1913 Lockout. A diligent, kind, very sociable colleague, Brendan was always in good humour. He will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts are with his family and many friends. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.
(P.S. Thanks to Assistant Secretary Eddie Soye for the image of Brendan, taken at one of the many Society events he was involved with).
