A selection of material from the Post Office Workers Union records held in the Society Collections relating to the seminal 1922 Postal Strike. The support of the Communications Workers Union and Dublin City Library & Archives in making these available is much appreciated.
The circulars distributed kept members of the unions up to date on negotiations, informed them how to carry out the strike, and how to keep in touch with HQ. During the strike there was an emphasis on preventing people working to break the strike. A printed card containing a long statement describing strike breakers is included. Ascribed to an unnamed 'prominent clergyman' the text of the card is more widely assumed to have been written by Jack London in 1913. This version adds the line "A real man is never a strike breaker".
